Bikeathon Kidz

Planning your event

Whether you are a pupil or a teacher wanting to organise your own event at school, follow these helpful tips on how to get started.

Venue: Your route should be vehicle free and ideally a circuit; playgrounds, parks, athletic tracks and car parks are perfect.

Younger Children:
We would suggest that you try and add in some small features along the route, e.g. cycling around cones to make the course more challenging. If space is a problem for your school then why not organise the event as a relay?

Older Children:
For older children you might consider a distance challenge; this is something that can be completed over a number of days or weeks. This could take the format of a cycle to school challenge or perhaps a static bike/spinning challenge. To help set them a target you could follow the distances below.

On you own or as a team you could cycle the equivalent of these distances over a set period of time.

0-25 miles
Birmingham to Coventry = 19 miles
Bristol to Cardiff = 25 miles

26-100 miles
Glasgow to Edinburgh = 41 miles
London to Brighton = 54 miles

100+ miles
Derby to Portsmouth = 177 miles
Liverpool to Hull = 125 miles

1 mile = 1.6 km
50 miles = 80 km
100 miles = 160 km

Date:
You can choose when to hold the event to suit your school calendar.
